Kolhapuri food is basically know for it’s spiciness, but in reality kolhapuri isn’t just about spices  kolhapuri food has its own flavor and its secret lies in its preparation. This time we are reviewing an authentic kolhapuri restaurant located in savarkar nagar ,gangapur road.”Kolhapuri Tadka” is serving authentic kolhapuri cousins like tambda rassa, pandhara rassa, kolhapuri chicken, kolhapuri mutton, kolhapuri Thali, Sukka Mutton etc.

Kolhapuri Thali at Kolhapuri Tadka Nashik

Ambiance of “Kolhpauri Tadka” is average although we were expecting some kolhapuri style interiors and folk ambiance.Service is quite great everything arrived in just couple of minutes as we settle down there. We ordered Kolhapuri Thali and Kheema ,kolhapuri thali was packed up with tambda rassa ,pandhara rassa, chicken, rotis, rice and salad. However special Thali has addition of Kheema and Jeera Rice.

Chicken was amazing having nice combination of kolhapuri spices , Tambda Rassa and Pandhara Rassa are basically gravies made from chicken/mutton stock was also up to the mark giving strong after taste of spices.Kheema was a bit spicy and perfectly cooked.

Having a really authentic kolhapuri food in Nashik town was really great experience ,food was remarkable and worth a try if you’re fan of home cooked spicy non vegetarian food. What disappoints us was the quantity of chicken ,summed up  at 150 INR Thali was having really small portion of chicken.Kheema was however perfect in taste ,quality and quantity as well.

Dabeli has origin from kaach gujrath as long as my information is correct. And it’s being popular since last few decades in the city. Usually people like it buttery but few goes for plain version without butter known as “Kacchi Dabeli”. What more it can even be made as per your order where stuffing you don’t like can be avoided and have a custom dabeli.Priced between 15-25 it’s really tummy filling evening snack.

Verdict: Try some of the authentic preparations of biryani and kheemas at pocket friendly prices.
Rating: 3/5

Table For Two: 200 Rs.
Address:Cafe Maharaja,Model Colony Circle,Opposite Dominos,College Road

Cafe Maharajah is one of those few eateries on college road where you can grab really authentic and delicious preparations.Usual scene in restaurants where you served with mediocre food with combined flavors is not what you experience  here at Cafe Maharajah. Exact spices with perfect proportion indulged you in your meal.We started with their famous Kheema which was prepared in really small quantity of oil and was little spicy, they serve another variation of kheema called “Shahi Kheema” prepared with chopped peas and kaleji (Liver) with little thick consistency as compared to plain edition.

Lakhnavi Biryani at Cafe Maharaja Nashik

Lakhnavi Biryani at Cafe Maharaja Nashik

Later we order their famous Lakhnavi biryani, cooked on low heat for hours on dum, it arrived on our table with succulent and tender and quite dry chicken pieces with less spicy marination. this biryani is different from other biryani’s in terms of spiciness and flavors. Use of few and selected spices brings out the flavor of chicken instead of heavy smell of marination and spices.

Kheema at Cafe Maharaja Nashik

Thali options are also available and it comes loaded with butter chicken ,chicken masala those who are planning a really heavy meal this will be nice alternative.

Ambiance and service are not up to the mark but as long as their taste is concern you won’t be disappoints and Cafe Maharajah will surely brings you back.

Verdict:Ultimate destination for lovely chat at really affordable prices.
Rating: 4/5

Table For Two: 100 Rs.

Mathuravasi Chat is just that special chatwala you’ll spot on all famous streets across country. Having strong north Indian influence on all of their preparations Mathuravasi is specially known for their Rava Panipuri, Unlike normal round shape Panipuri Rava Puri comes in oval shape and it’s cover is little thinner.Filled with tamron and mint chutney it’s really difficult to put that oval shape Puri in mouth,on the first attempt.

Their entire menu is filled up with mouth watering chat preparations out of which samosa chole chat and Alu Tikki are really stands out. Alu Tikki a patty of boiled potato and spices which is deep fried and smashed with couple of sweet, sour and spicy combination of chutneys and sprinkled again with few spices and garnished with coriander, shev and raw onions. Every byte of Alu Tikki indulge you into mixed taste of chutney’s and Tikki.Samosa Chole chat is made up with samosa and chole mixed with spices, raw onions and as usual their mint and tamron chutney’s.

Bhel and other chat preparations are not up to the mark if you taste them after Alu Tikki and Pani Puri. Bhel is quite crunchy and have really small amount of chutney’s.They do have dozens of different snacks and variations of chat with cheese also. However we always love their Alu Tikki and Pani Puri

Verdict:Old village style food in similar folk styled decor
Rating: 3/5

Table For Two: 400 Rs.

Address:Near Anand Valli ,Gangapur-Someshwar Road

Divtya Budhlya Wada is your gateway to typical maharashtrian folk culture, located on Someshwar Road near anandwali “Divtya Budhlya” will take you to a typical folk style home. There ambiance reflects interiors of old wooden structured homes typically found in villages of maharashtra. As like their decor and ambiance they serves village style dishes which goes little infact way more than normal spice levels.

Divtya Budhlya Wada Nashik – A Maharashtrian Restaurent With Folk Style Decor

We reached there on some sunny afternoon and entire place was really quite there were few families and teens munching chicken around the tables. We quickly place our order as we already finalize what we gonna have, first there was “Chicken Leg Masala” A spicy curry of chicken made with home made spices and “Chicken Gavran Fry” fried chicken pieces made with their own mixture of home made spices. One great thing we notice about there food is they don’t use boiled chicken pieces at all and there spices are extremely fresh and grounded in house. Also they use “Gavathi” Chicken instead of boiler in all maharastrian dishes where all others have boiler chicken in it.

We also heard a lot about there Chicken Thali which is really a full packed meal with Chicken Curry ,Egg Curry,Kheema and Pulao however we haven’t tried it yet. There service is quite slow we was there at really quite afternoon still it takes around 20 minutes to arrive our order, portions per dish are not really enough even  for single person there were hardly one leg piece and another small piece in both the dishes.

But still their tastes makes us visit the place really soon,  ambiance is really quite, cool and out from the city rush. Not really a pocket friendly place but surely we’ll  recommend you for their authentic village style recipes and their decor.

Kheema is basically minced meet of lamb and often beef cooked/fried with ginger-garlic,onions and whole spices usually served for breakfast with “Pao”“Parathas” or “Rotis” (Indian Bread).Use of whole spices gives it little fiery twist.Mixed culture in the city has its strong influence on cooking style hence each community has its own kheema recipies. This totally underrated meat preparation is however difficult to find in town we have put together few eateries where you can taste this really up to the mark kheema.

1.Cafe Maharaja:(Click here for justnashik review)
An old food joint serving Indian style vegetarian and non veg food, There kheema is cooked in Indian styled spice mixture. While there “Shahi Kheema” is made with peas and chicken liver which make it little but thick and gives really unusual taste than plain version of kheema.Kheema is served without any bread you can pair it with rotis or pav(Price 80INR and 100INR for Plain and Shahi version)

Your usual expectations of restaurant will be ceased as you entered in  “Jayesh Khanawal” .Located in messy lanes of panchwati ,old nashik, “Jayesh Khanawal” appeals to all those meat lovers who specially prefers home made meat preparations.

Just Nashik Food Review : Jayesh

Just Nashik Food Review : Jayesh

Chicken/Mutton(Lamb Meat)curries with secret spices and dry meat laden with mixture of really raw and strong flavored spices is what “Jayesh Khanawal” is popular for.
Usual class you found in “Jayesh Khanawal” is workers and people from nearby localities no fancy decor or formalities Just straight to the point.Delicious chicken for really unexpected price is Jayesh’s USP.All preparations are completely class apart and nonidentical and slightly influenced with  “Khandesh” region cooking. Most common dishes here are Chicken/Mutton Curries and Dry Chicken.”Bhakri“(Indian Bread) is usually paired with this dishes. If you want more fire attacks on your taste buds you can opt for “Rassa” which is prepared from meat stock and same spices in which chicken is cooked.

“Ambika misal”  was started decades ago by  Mr.Parushram Kukkar and now operated by Mr. Kailas Kukkar.Located near panchwati circle this place is now a landmark for tourists and misalpav lovers in the city. And as like every other famous misal pav joint in nashik you’ve to wait to dig your misal due to huge crowd awaiting for their misal pav.Misal curry at ambika is  little dark in colour as “Black masala(Spices)” are used mainly while preparing the dish.Their spices are little mild and won’t burn your palate as compare to other misal places.Currently they don’t have any branches and you must have to visit their only outlet in old panchwati near panchwati circle.

Today we are talking about a place which is here from more than three decades serving “Gujrathi Thali” and pure veg Indian delicacies. Hotel Samrat established in beginning of 80′s is a landmark in Nashik food culture as they are Pioneer in serving “Gujarati Thali ” in Nashik city.Along with Thali they are first in the city to start serving Chinese food and Sizzler’s as well.Located in the heart of city CBS (Central Bus Station) , the place is really easy to find.

The Signature offering of Samrat is their “Unlimited Gujarati Thali”. Filled with an array of vegetable preparations, dal, kadhi, assorted Indian breads (Rotis) and bunch of side dishes it is full packed dose of Gujarati culture. Vegetables in the Thali keep rotating every day for variation in taste however few remains same . They even have a Farsan which keeps changing everyday except for Sunday, when they serve Delicious Dahi-Wada which has remain unchanged since the last 30 years.

You can pair up Fulka & Rotla/Biscuit Bhakri with Vegetables where “Kadhi” and “Dal” can ideally be blended perfectly with Steamed-Rice and Khichadi respectively.During your meal you can enjoy numerous side dishes like papad, salad and different chutney’s.And while you’re busy with eating , servers will make sure that supply of all the dishes should remain in flow so you don’t need to wait. There are very minimal spices which are used in Gujarati cooking unlike other Indian regions hence food is very well for all palates.

If you’re not up to such heavy meal you can opt out for Chinese or Limited-Thali.Limited Thali Menu contains 2 Vegetables out of which 1 is Dry-Preparation , Dal , 4 Phulkas , Steam Rice & Papad. Being a Pure Veg Restaurant they serve only Veg Chinese out of which we tried out “Paneer Mumtaz” a Paneer-starter added with Chinese spices. But we strongly advise You to try their Unlimited Thali if you’re visiting them for first time.

Ambience is normal and well suited for family dining place, hygienic with staff totally well spoken and attentive.Even Their expertise and chefs are same from three decades for their thali and you can sense it by tasting their food. All of this makes samrat a place for you veg cravings.

P.S. : Sunday special Gujarati-Thali has unlimited sweet especially for Maharashtrians i.e. Puran-Poli &  No extra charge for unlimited sweets only on Sunday. Also make sure to ask if they have Shrikhand whenever you visit … one of the best Shrikhand we came across in the city.
